Countrywood was developed in the early 1970’s as a planned residential community with a mix of single- family houses, condominiums, apartments, and commercial. It includes the premier Colonial Country Club on over 375 acres and the Fletcher Creek Park. On May 1, 2002, Countrywood was annexed to the City of Memphis. Various city services were added along with attractive vintage street lights. Subsequently the City took over maintenance of the streets and about eight miles of medians. Countrywood has grown to about 2800 houses plus condominiums and apartments. Its boundaries are basically Germantown Parkway on the West, Highway 64 on the East, I-40 on the North, and Fletcher Creek/Berryhill on the South. Several in-fill neighborhoods are within Countrywood Neighborhood Association’s boundaries—Fairway Gardens, Eagle Ridge, Colonial Estates, Carrollwood, as well as Chimneyhill Condominiums, Countrywood West Condominiums, RockCreek Apartments, Lincoln at Wolfchase Luxury Apartment Homes, Colonial Towers, and several local businesses.
Countrywood is a great place to live and is in the heart of the Memphis area’s busiest retail and restaurant corridor along North Germantown Parkway including the Wolfchase Galleria. It is conveniently located to I-40 and to all areas of Memphis and about 25 minutes to downtown or to the Memphis International Airport. Countrywood has a park-like atmosphere with underground wiring, wooded lots and houses of diverse architectural styles lining the rolling winding parkways. The Agricenter International, Shelby Farms Park, and the Greenline (paved pedestrian and bike trails) are 10 minutes away. Fletcher Creek Park is within the neighborhood at Chimneyrock Blvd. and Dexter Road featuring 22 acres of walking trails, a playground, green space, picnic tables, a pavilion, and an observation deck overlooking Fletcher Creek.
